Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know what size urn I need?
The general rule of thumb is that one pound of body weight equals approximately one cubic inch of cremated remains. For example, a person who weighed 200 lbs would require an urn with a capacity of at least 200 cubic inches. For more information read our sizing guide here.
What is a "Keepsake Urn" used for?
Keepsake urns are miniature vessels designed to hold a small portion of ashes (usually less than 25 cubic inches). They are perfect for families who are sharing remains among multiple people or for those who wish to keep a small memorial while scattering the rest.
Can I personalize the urn?
Yes, all of our urns can be customized with engraved plates that we fix to the lid of the urn. Personalization options are detailed on each product page.
Are ceramic urns durable?
Ceramic urns are crafted with care and are durable for indoor display. However, as they are made from ceramic, they should be handled with care to prevent chipping or breaking.
How do I seal a ceramic urn?
Our urns come with a precision-fit lid. For a permanent seal, we recommend applying a small bead of clear silicone adhesive or epoxy to the inside rim of the lid before closing. This ensures the vessel is airtight and secure.
Are these urns suitable for outdoor niches or columbariums?
Yes. Our high-fired ceramic urns are incredibly durable. However, if placing them in an outdoor columbarium, ensure the niche is weather-sealed, as extreme freeze-thaw cycles can theoretically affect any ceramic material over decades.
Do I put the ashes directly into the ceramic vessel?
Most families prefer to keep the remains inside the heavy-duty plastic bag provided by the crematory and then place that bag inside the urn. This provides an extra layer of security.
Can I take a ceramic urn on an airplane?
Yes. According to TSA guidelines, you can carry on a cremation urn. Because our urns are made of ceramic (a non-dense material), they can be easily X-rayed. We recommend carrying the urn in a padded "TSA-approved" bag and keeping your cremation certificate handy.
Do you ship directly to funeral homes?
Absolutely. During checkout, simply enter the funeral home’s address as the shipping destination. We recommend notifying the funeral director so they know to expect the delivery.
Is every urn identical?
No. Because our urns are handcrafted and hand-glazed, each piece has subtle variations in texture and tone. This means your memorial is as unique as the life it honors.
What is the shipping time for an urn?
We offer multiple shipping options. Standard shipping typically takes 5-7 business days. Expedited options are available at checkout if you need the urn sooner. Personalized urns may require additional processing time.
What if I receive a damaged urn?
We take great care in packaging our urns to prevent damage during transit. However, if an urn arrives damaged, please contact our customer service team within 48 hours of delivery. We will work with you to provide a replacement or refund.
Can I return an urn?
We understand this is a sensitive purchase. Non-personalized urns may be returned within 30 days of receipt in their original condition and packaging. Personalized urns are non-refundable.
